CertiK, a security crypto firm, has shared that the crypto industry has recorded its lowest monthly loss in nearly a year in February 2026.
The post on X shared a breakdown of on-chain incidents; the firm reported that about $35.7 million was lost to exploits during the month. Out of this number, about $8.5 million was linked to phishing attacks, while wallet compromise led all incident categories with about $16.6 million stolen, making it the biggest source of damage for the month.

Crypto market price manipulation was followed by over $11.4 million in losses, while code vulnerabilities and other forms of exit scams made up smaller portions of the total money lost for the month.
The report also highlighted that funds returned or frozen reached about $11.3 million. Showing that almost 30% of the total losses recorded in February were returned back, which suggests that some recovery efforts were successful despite the ongoing increase in attacks.

Major Crypto Exploits That Drove February’s Losses High
When looking at individual exploits, YieldBlox topped the list with about $10.6 million stolen. IoTeX followed as the platform recorded losses of $8.9 million, while Foom recorded a $2.3 million loss. Other notable incidents were worth about $2.1 million, and CrossCurve was at roughly $1.4 million. These five projects accounted for a large share of the month’s total damage.
If the data is broken into different sectors in the blockchain system, decentralized finance projects were hit with the biggest breach. DeFi protocols recorded about $14.4 million in losses, making them the most affected segment throughout February.
AI-related projects came next, with around $8.9 million stolen. Gambling platforms, address poisoning attacks, and wallet drainers contributed smaller but very notable amounts.
Overall, February 2026 shows a month filled with mixed signals for the crypto industry. Overall, the total losses declined and recovery efforts improved, but user-focused attacks like phishing and wallet compromise continue to dominate the threat landscape.
